Money for nothing but the books ain't free

Exactly how Dire Straits would put it. But well, my donut don't exactly get the money for doing nothing. She earned them from the so-called fines she imposed on the MOTHs (Man & Mdm of the House). Serves us parents right for the cursory remarks (made under the breath) on errant drivers, not putting on seat-belts etc. Ingenuity as its best? Well, personally I think its more of meeting ones wantz to ones needz; i.e. the freedom by having purchasing power.

Apart from the normal girly stuff that are a bit too expensive for parents to consider buying, my donut has an insatiable yearn for books. Books and more books... I mean just look at the study for a start.

There's more tucked away in plastic containers belonging to the MOTHS - enough to make the annual tax rebates for books an outcry.

But it is good to know that the MOTHs have successfully instilled the reading habit in the donut. And whats more thrilling is the array of collection of books she has "graduated" from and growing interest to. And not to mention the creeping increase in the price of the book. Anyway, apart from the price, my donut managed to read her 2 of her candy apple series in 2-days!

From one of the earliest books on barbie to the latest ones on spiderwick and also the candy apple series, my donut also realises that her bargaining power to buy books she wants (including expensive ones) will increase dramatically if she strategise her negotiating skill to pay half the price and either MOTHs to pay the balance.

Just yesterday, I was quite impressed that my donut finds the new paperback "Alice In Wonderland" based on the film by Tim Burton to be in cinemas on 11th March 2010, an interesting read. I mean for a serious read without pictorials and very novel-like seriousness and it costs RM29.90. Here, she put in her negotiating skill until MOTH agrees to pay RM15.00. Interestingly, little miss donut also rationalises that if she reads the book, she will be able to appreciate the film more as she would know exactly what went on the minds of the characters; i.e. the unspoken thoughts that are only known to people who reads the book. Mind you, the little donut does her own research on the Net, on new books worth buying and reading (Like father, like daughter). Well, at least, she's learned the value of money and how to spend them wisely.

Anyway, here's a video on a day out on 1 November 2009, on donut and pumpkin (Nimas) browsing and looking for additions to their book collections. Its too bad that little Miss Celery (Wulan) was not around.
